Futurewise

The Gen Z slugging-focused skincare brand launched by the founders of Starface is shutting its doors. All Futurewise products are now 60% off on the brand website, and the last day to place orders will be March 24.

WHO: Julie Schott and Brian Bordainick, the brains behind Starface, launched Futurewise in late 2022. With over 500 million views on the hashtag  #Slugging on TikTok at the time of launch, the brand leaned into the trend, launching three-step slugging system Slug Boost Hydrating Mist ($22), Slug Cream Barrier Repair Moisturizer ($24), and Slug Balm Moisture Locking Occlusive ($24), and later launched a lip product.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS: "After a lot of thought, we have made the hard decision to sunset Futurewise," the brand announced in a March 3 Instagram post. "We are deeply grateful for your trust and support over the years—it's been an honor to be part of your skin-care routine."

DETAILS:

  • Futurewise is closing the business.
  • Bordainick told Vogue Business in 2022 that funding for the new launch was generated from “some internal and external” investment, but declined to give specifics.
  • In early 2023, the brand rolled out into Target online and in stores shortly after launching DTC.
  • In 2024, the brand launched in CVS and 2,000 Walmart doors.
  • Plus, the personal care brand with its Plus Body Wash, a just-add-water, no-bottle cleanser launched by Schott and Bordainick in 2021, closed its doors last May.
  • The duo launched four brands in three years; both Starface and Julie, an emergency contraceptive, are still in operation.
